That challenge is exactly why the PA Cross Cut was created.
Today, I am excited to announce the release of PA Cross Cut Version 4, the latest update to Pennsylvania’s north-south adventure motorcycle route. This update includes one of the most requested improvements since the route’s launch, along with a spectacular new scenic destination and an additional fuel stop that makes long-distance travel even easier.
What Is the PA Cross Cut?
The PA Cross Cut is a 408 mile ADV route the runs from Coppers Rock WV through PA and ends at Allegany State Park, New York’s largest state park. Designed by several local adventure riders and Dan from Xpeditionpgh. This route is for adventure riders, and combines flowing backroads, scenic pavement, gravel roads, forest roads, and optional challenge sections.
From Allegheny State Park if you haven’t had enough the route takes you through some beautiful pavement and great views of the lake for a quick final chunk of gravel back to Westline PA
Unlike some routes that focus exclusively on difficult terrain, the PA Cross Cut was designed to be enjoyable for a wide variety of riders and motorcycles. Riders on larger adventure bikes such as the Husqvarna Norden 901, Yamaha Ténéré 700, BMW GS models, KTM Adventure bikes, and similar machines can comfortably complete the main route while still enjoying plenty of scenery and adventure. Smaller bikes will have just as much fun just not quite as comfortable. I have rode this on my Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen so I know what I am talking about.
For riders looking for something more technical, optional hard sections are available that introduce more challenging terrain without forcing every rider into difficult conditions.
The result is a route that feels like the Pennsylvania Backcountry Discovery X Route while remaining achievable in a 2 to 3 days. 2 days is very easy to ride the route but it does depend on how long you ride each day.
What’s New in Version 4?
The biggest improvement in Version 4 focuses on a section between Punxsutawney and Arroyo Bridge.
While previous versions successfully connected these destinations, it was a little more road than I wanted. Also the main route had gone through an awesome stretch in state game lands. I loved it but they have it gated at times and I don’t want to tempt anyone to go around a gate. Version 4 is so much better. It bypass the game lands and trust me they will never be missed.
New Stop: Beartown Rocks
One of the highlights of the new update is the addition of Beartown Rocks, a stunning overlook located in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Dark Sky Country.
If you’ve never visited this area, you’re in for a treat.
The region is known for its remote forests, limited light pollution, and expansive mountain views. Beartown Rocks provides riders with a perfect excuse to stop, stretch their legs, take photographs, and appreciate the beauty of Pennsylvania’s wild northern forests.
The overlook delivers impressive views throughout the year, but it is especially spectacular during fall foliage season when the surrounding ridges explode with color.
Many riders pass through this region without ever discovering locations like this. One of the goals of the PA Cross Cut has always been to connect riders with hidden gems that they might otherwise miss, and Beartown Rocks fits that perfectly. Additional Fuel and Food Near Brookville
Adventure riders know that fuel planning is one of the most important parts of route design. While many motorcycles can easily cover long distances between stops, others have more limited fuel range. Riders traveling in groups often appreciate more frequent opportunities to refuel, grab a meal, hydrate, and regroup.
The new stop gives riders additional flexibility and peace of mind while reducing concerns about fuel range in this section of the route.

Most travelers experience Pennsylvania through major highways and population centers. The PA Cross Cut takes a different approach.
